The notebook is a companion to "The Warehouse Already Knows" on the ETS blog. Pick one dock door, the busiest one you can watch, and keep the notebook there for five shifts in a row, handing it to whoever leads that door each shift.

Log every gap: each time the floor knew something SAP didn't, or another system (WMS, TMS, yard, spreadsheet, clipboard) was sure of something the floor had already contradicted. Each shift page records the time, what happened, which system knew, which didn't, how long it lasted, who corrected it, and whether the fix was manual. Write what happened, not who to blame. No workshop, no steering committee: a pen is enough.

After shift 5, total it up: gaps logged, the longest gap, how many were corrected by hand, the system most often behind, and the top five gaps to fix first. Each line is a place where SAP lost track of the building. Fix those before anyone adds another system.

The notebook is available above as a printable PDF.
